The Day of Duck Hunting

On the day of your guided hunt you will arrive at the designated hunting area 45 minutes prior to shooting time. This will give you a chance to get situated for the hunt and your guides can answer any questions you may have pertaining to the hunt. We generally hunt until noon, however as the weather turns colder, we may hunt later, because the birds have a tendency to fly later. Your opinions and our guides discretion will determine the length of the hunt.

Safety is the primary ingredient for any successful guided duck or goose hunt. Our guides will call all shots, so everyone comes up shooting at the same time. We encourage hunters to get involved with the hunt and ask questions. We encourage clients to feel free to help in the field.

Prior to hunting in Arkansas you will be required to purchase a license to hunt small game and any associated waterfowl fee's. You are also required to have a federal waterfowl stamp. These must be purchased by residents and non-residents to hunt waterfowl in Arkansas. *Note to all hunters, resident and non-resident are required to have completed a hunter safety course in there home state prior to purchasing a hunting license in Arkansas.  Please contact your state department of natural resources to complete this course if you haven't already done so. 

***Guiding waterfowl hunts on any state owned land, conservation area or waterfowl production area is againts the law in Arkansas, We at Goose and Duck Smackers follow the law. 

What to bring on your hunt

We recommend you bring the following along on your duck hunting trip:

• License - You will need to comply with the State laws for the state we are hunting in.
• Clothing - Bring a good mix of warm clothing! Duck hunting starts long before the sun comes up and it is often humid and cold in the hours before the sun warms the fields. Dress in layers so that you can take off gear as the morning warms up.
• Firearm - 12-guage that will handle 3 or 3.5 inch magnums.
• Ammo - We recommend 12 guage 3" or 3.5" shells.  We recommend B shot to BBB shot to get the job done. Load plenty of non-toxic heavy shot if you can afford those options. Heavy shot is a deadly load in 3" mag 2 shot. Above all, remember to bring plenty of ammunition!
• Food and Drink - Bring plenty of snacks and something to drink while out in the field. A morning of hunting can seem like a lifetime if you don't have something cool to wet to drink before lunch break. Better yet, bring a nice, big thermos of coffee for your guides. That being said, don't even think about alcohol. Safety is our top priority and there's no place for hunters under the influence.
• Camera - Drop your good camera into a Ziploc bag and bring it along. There's no better way to preserve your memories than in a few photos at the end of a day.
